Osprey News

Osprey flying For the latest news about ospreys at Lake Arrowhead or ospreys in general, check in here to see what's going on.

Two pairs of ospreys nested and produced chicks at Lake Arrowhead in 2006, one fewer than the year before.  2005 was the first time three pairs of the birds successfully nested at the lake, after several years of two-nest success!

One of the previous nests fell over in the spring of 2006, but the two other sites from 2005 successfully hosted breeding pairs.  We restored the failed site last year, and hope birds will return to it in 2007.

Thanks to great success at sites throughout northern Vermont, the state has removed ospreys from the endangered species list!  This marks a great success story for ospreys, and the collaborative efforts that have returned them to Vermont's skies.
