Photographing ospreys is extremely difficult, due to their
skittishness, their need for space, the use of high nesting
sites, and until recently, a tiny osprey population. For cvps.com/osprey,
we compiled a superb collection of osprey photographs from
a variety of sources. We constantly update the photos,
so check back often to see the latest.

The photos include
work from one of Vermont's premier wildlife photographers,
Gustav W. Verderber, bird carver Floyd Scholz, CVPS's osprey
program manager Steve Costello, CVPS archives, and the Vermont
Department of Fish & Wildlife.
The photos in the
gallery pages are of particular note. Gustav W. Verderber,
produced the pictures in the 2002 Gallery. Gustav spent much
of the summer of 2002 hunkered down in a canoe at Lake Arrowhead,
where he documented a stunning chapter in the lives of the
lake's ospreys.
Gustav brought us images of two pairs of ospreys and their three young chicks, from the hatchlings' first appearances to their first flights. His keen eye and immeasurable patience garnered spectacular images of adult ospreys feeding their young, an adult osprey delivering fish to the nest, and family portraits of power and grace.
We hope you enjoy them!
