Blue Spruce Farm

Blue Spruce imageLocation: Bridport, Vermont

History: The Audets are a multigenerational farm, started by Norman and Mary-Rose Audet in 1958 with 35 cows. Norm passed on the farm to his three sons, Earnest, Earl and Eugene.

Cows: As the family has grown, so has the dairy, currently at 1,300 cows producing over 30 million pounds of milk annually, which is used to make Cabot Cheese.

Production: As the pioneer Cow Power farm in Vermont, their cows not only make milk, they heat water, generate 1.6 million kWh of electricity annually, and produce bedding to increase cow comfort, while reducing odor.

They also crop nearly 3,000 acres in the Champlain Valley, contributing to maintaining the scenic working landscape identified with Vermont.

The Audets are recognized for their efforts toward innovation and sustainability; among their awards are Vermont Sustainable Agriculture Farm of the Year, Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence, Conservation Farmer of the Year, Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year.
