On The Street

The risk of being injured by electricity doesn't stop when you leave your home. The following safety guidelines should be practiced when you are away from home as well:

  • Stay away from fallen power lines and electrical equipment.
  • Report downed lines to CVPS at 1-800-451-2877 immediately.
  • If you are inside a car hit by a power line, STAY IN THE CAR. Honk your horn for help, but tell non-emergency or non-utility personnel to stay away from the car.
  • Stay away from transmission lines, utility poles, substation fences and any other facility marked with "Danger, High Voltage" signs.
  • Do not swing, climb or touch any guy wires supporting utility poles. A guy wire is the wire that is attached to a utility pole to provide support, and is anchored to the ground. Report any damaged guy wires to CVPS.
