SAFETY |
Dig Safe What you don't know can hurt you. Call before you dig - it's free. Both federal and state laws require excavators to notify appropriate utility companies before excavating. This can be done quickly and easily with a single call to Dig Safe, a non-profit company set up to expedite the process of identifying underground utility lines before digging occurs. The system was created to promote public safety, avoid costly damage to underground facilities, reduce the likelihood of injuries, and reduce the cost and time of notifications. When you call Dig Safe, utilities have 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) to respond. Any underground facilities will be marked or staked by the member companies. The excavator will be given a Dig Safe Number to acknowledge their call. NOTE: CVPS will respond to a Dig Safe call only to identify underground lines owned by CVPS. Underground electric lines to residences and many commercial buildings may be owned by the customer and it is the responsibility of the customer to mark their locations. The Dig Safe system operates Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Off-hour coverage is provided for emergencies only. Before digging call Dig Safe, toll-free at 1-888-DIG-SAFE (1-888-344-7233) or visit the Dig Safe Web site.
