Substations & Copper Theft

It's against the law and could kill you.

Wire thefts appear to be growing across the country as utility wires become more expensive and bring a higher price for scrap or resale.

Stealing copper from an electric company is a crime, and it is extremely dangerous. Not only could it result in death for the thief, but it can affect customers and innocent people through fires, explosions and power outages. Copper wires in substations carry very high voltages, and if tampered with can cause immediate harm, including death, to an untrained and unqualified person. This is why entry into substations is restricted and unauthorized entry is a crime. Warning and high-voltage signs are posted around substations for this very reason.

We would like to remind customers never to enter a substation or touch any electrical equipment, power lines or anything that may be touching a power line. And please, help us by reporting any suspicious activity that you may see at our substations.
