Vermont's Business Environment
Strong Work Force:
Vermont's legendary work force, characterized by a strong work ethic, is not a myth.
The state's farming history, with its old-fashioned virtues of strength, persistence,
reliability and self-reliance, has shaped the values of today's work force. Businesses
relocating or expanding here are impressed with the Vermont worker. An exceptional
work ethic adds productivity and quality to any business, and the work force is
well-adapted to manufacturing.
Vermont has the ideal work force combination: 300,000-plus workers, high education
attainment rates, a longstanding Yankee tradition of hard work, and low state-mandated
costs to employers. The bottom line: high productivity, few work stoppages, an employee
willingness to learn and a cooperative attitude toward management.
Telecommunications Network:
Verizon's telecommunications network in Vermont is now among the most modern in
the nation, contributing to the favorable market potential Vermont exhibits. Altogether,
about 39,000 miles of fiber optic lines have been placed. Another example of the
state's leadership in telecommunications is the Vermont Interactive Television system,
which uses Verizon's network. This two-way audio and video interactive system is
designed to keep Vermont's highly skilled work force competitive through training,
and to enhance business communications through teleconferencing.
Financing:
Fortunately, Vermont offers a wide range of financing options to help you succeed.
The Vermont Economic Development Authority provides low-interest loans and tax-exempt
bond financing for buildings, equipment and land. Whatever your need, CVPS and VEDA
are ready to help you explore the options to find the best financial package for
your business.
In addition, Vermont law authorizes communities to stabilize taxes for new and expanding
businesses for up to 10 years.
