Rights-of-way management with herbicide
Selective application of herbicide is just one of several tools that we use to manage
vegetation within our rights-of-way (ROWs). The herbicides used by CVPS are
approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Vermont Agency of Agriculture
and are applied by licensed and trained personnel. These products work into
the stems and leaves of targeted plants and stop the growth and any re-sprouting
that may occur. These highly specialized herbicides block the chemicals found
in plants that are required by the plant to grow, and when applied properly are
safe for use near fish, birds, animals and humans.
We strive to achieve biodiversity within our ROWs. Biodiversity is the simple
concept of mixing compatible woody and flowering plants to create a greater mix
of beneficial plant species. By promoting low-growing species, we provide
more than just grass communities, we provide better wildlife
habitat.
